670 unemployed youths to get assistance under PMRY

Beneficiaries to be selected in Tuticorin: Collector

Tuticorin: Collector R. Palaniyandi has said that subsidy-linked financial assistance would be extended to 670 ‘educated unemployed youth’ in the district during the current fiscal under the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY).

“The scheme was aimed at assisting the youth population from economically weaker section of the society to get an opportunity to set up self employment ventures in industry, service and business sector,” he said.

The beneficiaries would be selected through a series of interviews scheduled to be held in four stages this month, starting August 14. The interviews would be conducted at the office of the District Industries Centre on August 14 and 28 from 9.30 a.m. and at the Panchayat Union Offices at Vilathikulam and Sattankulam, on August 16 and 21, respectively, from 10 a.m.

Candidates should have passed Standard VIII and preference would be given to people who had been trained in some trade in any of the Government approved or Government recognised institutions for a duration of six months.

Candidates (general category) should be aged between 18 and 35 years, while the upper age limit would be relaxed by 10 years for those belonging to SC/ST, ex-servicemen, physically challenged and women.

The annual family income should not exceed Rs.1 lakh. He/she should not be a defaulter to any financial institution.

Further a person already assisted under other subsidy linked government schemes would not be eligible for financial assistance under this scheme.

The subsidy-linked credit would be given to the tune of Rs.2 lakh for establishing micro enterprises in business/service sector and Rs.5 lakh for industry sector, with loans to be of composite in nature.

The Collector said that the subsidy portion would be limited to 15 per cent of the project cost, subjected to a ceiling of Rs.12,500 per beneficiary.
