BANGALORE: The dark sky and the intermittent drizzle did not dampen the spirits of the participants at ‘Prerane 2007’, an inter-school cultural and literary festival hosted by Prasiddhi School, Palace Compound, recently. The annual event drew over 1,000 participants from 28 schools, and it provided an opportunity for them to showcase their talent. In all, there were 12 competitions. From salad dressing to newspaper making, students enthusiastically participated in all the events. Group dance as well as group music saw participation from many schools. Besides that there was collage, product launch, miming, poster-making, extempore, essay writing and flower arrangement competitions. In the newspaper-making event, participants created the first page of a newspaper on a drawing sheet. They wrote a report on India’s Independence Day celebrations. The enthusiastic students even christened their publication. The event not only showed the creative skills but also the powers of observation of the participants. The host school walked away with the top prize in this event. Venkat International School was the winner in group dance (seniors), group music (juniors) and group music (seniors). The team from Poorna Prajna School emerged winners in quiz (seniors), while in the junior category the team from Hymanshu Jyoti Kala Peeta won the first place. Principal V. Meenakshi said that the event provided a platform for students to display their talent. Sujith Jha from Buoyancee inaugurated the fest. Narayana Raju, secretary, Siddharth Raju, treasurer and L.V.R. It was a memorable day for the achievers of Auden Institute of Education, Banashankari. The joy and enthusiasm was unbridled at the Prathiba Puraskar programme as they went on stage to receive mementoes from the guests. The puraskar was not only in recognition of their achievement in academics but also for their good behaviour. The students who brought laurels to the institution in the SSLC examination were also felicitated. Actor Jayamala was the chief guest, and she told the students to give equal importance to both curricular as well as co-curricular activities. She highlighted the responsibilities of teachers. She also recalled the noble and selfless work of Salumarada Thimmakka in helping to preserve the environment. V.N. Subba Rao, president of the Karnataka Media Academy, lauded the achievements of the school and also spoke on the role of a teacher in moulding the character of a student.
