Kannada version of the scientist’s biography released Minister for introducing books on science and scientists in schools
Bangalore: A national programme that facilitates dialogue between scientists and children should be launched for developing interest in various aspects of science among children and prepare them in facing future challenges of the world with a vision and confidence, the former Director of Indian Institute of Science C.N.R. Rao has said. He was speaking at the release of the Kannada version of his biography, “Science as a way of life,” here on Monday. Any number of books on science and biographies and autobiographies of scientists would only help in attracting children towards science and scientists to some extent. But mere publications would really help inculcating science among children was a challenging question to be thought of in the larger context of the country. In that context accommodating free interaction between scientists and children at various levels would help the nation in producing competent scientists, Prof. Rao said. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basarvaraj S. Horatti said that it was the duty and responsibility of the State Government to introduce books on science and scientists at schools in addition to curriculum. The Government would take steps to purchase and supply such books through its book purchasing schemes, he added. Minister for Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda was the chief guest. The original biography of Prof. Rao authored by Mohan Sunderrajan has been translated into Kannada by N.S. Leela. The book has been brought out by Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat in association with a private publication.
