Heavy traffic at Hotel Mayas crossing near Chatram Bus Stand has made crossing the road very difficult. It is suggested to provide a traffic signal in the area. S. Rajagopal,
Tiruchi Lay speed-breakers
Speeding vehicles on Musiri-Tiruchi Road have made life difficult for the public, especially students of Government Boys Higher Secondary School and patients of Government Hospital. I request the authorities to lay speed-breakers in these places. S. Balamurugan,
Musiri. Lacking amenities
Fifteen apartments are located at Thathachariyar Residential Arcade covering an area of 37,500 sq.m on Mambala Salai. Not even a single amenity has been provided by the builders of the complex designed to house 339 families. With just 60 per cent occupancy, the complex lacks drinking water arrangement, street lighting, parking area, playground, proper road, drainage system and garbage clearance. One contractor has sub-contracted the work to seven contractors who have exploited every inch of the area for building the apartments with scant regard to amenities. Most of the flats are occupied by tenants who can hardly contribute to the development of the complex. The local administration is paying no attention to the problems of this arcade. R. Ilangovan,
Tiruchi Policy for small units
This is with reference to the report “Tamil Nadu to come out with policy soon to help small and medium enterprises: official” (The Hindu, July 15 2007). Encouragement of small-sized eco-friendly units is welcome and will help generation of employment opportunities. But the Government should list the industries which will come under this policy. It should also identify the industries for which infrastructure, allotment of more space, skill upgradation and cluster development have been proposed. P.S. Subrahmanian, Srirangam Open toilet
Town Hall is the place used by commuters to bypass NSB Road to catch Junction-bound buses. However, they use the open space at Town Hall as a urinal. As a result, we are unable to reach MG Gate via Town Hall. A pay-and-use lavatory is functional nearby, but is hardly used by people. I request the officials to penalise those who dirty the area. K. Venkatesan, Tiruchi Cables in open space
Cable operators dump useless channels on subscribers. Moreover, the cables touch electricity and telephone wires at most places. This is dangerous, particularly during rainy days. Laying of cables in open spaces should be regulated. A cable line away from electrical and telephone wires may be provided to prevent accidents. David Peniel,
Tiruchi. Complete tank work
The Tiruchi Corporation had spent crores of rupees for construction of a massive overhead tank at Chatram Bus Stand. Two years have passed, but the tank is still dry. It is hoped that the authorities will make it operational as early as possible. They can complete the construction under the tank and build shops, rooms or offices and earn lease revenue. Since there is a compound wall on all four sides, no inconvenience will be felt by the travelling public. Dalmiapuram Ganesan, Srirangam Water supply hit again
Water supply in the city was hit a second time on July 22, this time by a careless driver of an earthmover of the corporation. Had there been proper supervision of desilting work, this would not have happened. V. Santhanagopalan, Tiruchi
