Garbage collectors steal bag containing Rs.11.5 lakh

Bangalore: It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it!

The Tilaknagar police were confronted with a bizarre case and had to sift through garbage for a large part of the day on Monday.

Prasanna, an employee at a software company, was on his way to repay a loan of Rs. 11.5 lakh.

He had kept the huge amount in cash in a jute bag. Prasanna, a resident of Chikkakallasandra, reportedly kept the bag near the gate and went in to get his bag from inside the house. Meanwhile, a BBMP garbage collector Narasimha Murthy, who had come to clear garbage, noticed the bag and took it away. He then gave it to another garbage collector Narayana and reportedly asked him to hide the contents of the bag. Narayana divided the money in three different bags.

Complaint filed

The police said he kept Rs. 8 lakh in one, Rs. 2 lakh in one and Rs. 1.5 lakh in another. Prasanna after returning from inside his house noticed that the bag was missing. He then saw Narasimha Murthy collecting garbage from other houses on the street and questioned him.

When Narasimha Murthy feigned ignorance, Prasanna filed a complaint with the Tilaknagar police.

Another bag missing

The Tilaknagar police questioned Narayana and Narasimha Murthy.

They first denied the charge. Upon persistent questioning, Narayana and Narasimha Murthy reportedly owned up to the deed.

The police were able to recover two bags containing Rs. 8 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh respectively.

They then had to look through all the garbage that the two had collected in hope of finding the other bag.

They still have not been able to find the third bag.
