Rs. 10 lakh looted Crime notes

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Two armed men barged into a Central Excise Inspector’s house in Hoskote police station limits on the outskirts of the city on Monday and looted Rs. 10 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 70,000 after gagging his wife.

According to the police, the incident took place around 9.30 a.m. at Prabhakar’s house in Battarahalli, off K.R. Puram, when his wife Nalini was alone at the house.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bangalore sub-division) M. Shankarappa told The Hindu that two men came to Mr. Prabhakar’s house asking for his son, Naveen.

They told Ms. Nailini that Naveen had asked them to help him in downloading certain data from a computer.

After Ms. Nalini told them that her son had gone to college, the duo pushed her inside and closed the door.

They gagged Ms. Nalini by putting a plaster on her mouth, tied her hands and forced her on to a cot. Later, they looted the gold ornaments from a safe and Rs. 10 lakh cash that was kept under a bed, Mr. Shankarappa said.

After the duo made good their escape, Ms. Nalini told her neighbours what had happened, the police said.

Mr. Shankarappa said the police have definite clues about the culprits and they were after them.

The Hoskote police have registered a case.

Two killed

Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the city on Sunday night.

The police said Kiran Madhu (24) was killed on the spot after he rammed his motorcycle against a road median near Ramagondanahalli on Varthur Road. Madhu, a native of Kottayam in Kerala, was an employee of a private firm here. The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case.

In the other incident, Deepak Raj Bhatt (42), a security guard, was killed in a hit-and-run case reported from Airport traffic police station limits.

The police said that around 9.30 p.m. a vehicle knocked down Deepak, said to be from Nepal, while he was crossing the Outer Ring Road near Kadubeesanahalli.

Recovered

The South East division police have recovered gold ornaments, electronic goods and a car, together worth Rs. 10 lakh, by arresting two men from Tamil Nadu who were allegedly involved in 13 burglaries in the city.

The arrested were identified as Ravi alias Viji (34) and Bhaskar (27), both from Vellore district.
