Tahsildars and sub-registrars targeted

An official reportedly paid Rs. 20,000

ANANTAPUR: An impostor posing as DSP of Anti-Corruption Bureau was arrested here on Tuesday by the Central Crime Station and special party police.

A hunting sickle, a cell phone and Rs. 9,000 cash were seized from his possession.

A native of Kalagall Village in Kuderu mandal, Y. Hanumanthu (27), used to target officials by introducing himself as “DSP Krishna Mohan from Hyderabad.” According to Anantapur DSP G.S. Karunakar, he either threatened or blackmailed several Tahsildars, sub-registrars and other officials in Anantapur and Kurnool districts.

Modus operandi

Disclosing the modus operandi of Hanumanthu, the DSP said the accused studied till Intermediate and was married and had two children and some land.

However, he dreamt of becoming rich overnight and accordingly collected the phone numbers of the officials in two districts and started implementing his plan.

The imposter used to call up the officials through his cell phone (98666 71694) saying that the ACB was in receipt of their ‘corrupt activities’ and demand money for dropping inquiry against the ‘tainted official.’ A Sub-Registrar in the district reportedly paid Rs. 20,000 to the impostor recently after he was threatened in such a fashion.

He also tried to get some official solicitation from Tahsildar of Garladinne and a DE of AP Transco here.

A team led by CCS Inspector A. Srinivasulu nabbed the impostor near market yard here.
