TUMKUR: Members of the Citizen Committee for Protection of Students’ Interests and students of Government First Grade College at Kunigal in Tumkur district staged a demonstration at Kunigal on Tuesday and protested against lack of infrastructure, lecturers and library facility. Over 800 students of the college and 100 members of the committee blocked traffic on the National Highway 48 at Kunigal. They burnt an effigy of Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy. The police brought in-charge principal of the college Deveeramma to the demonstration spot to urge the protesters to lift the road blockade. President of the committee Mohan and student leaders Nagendraswamy, Lokesh and Mariyanna said the construction work of the college building was inordinately delayed. There were no lecturers for more than five subjects. Library was kept closed as the librarian’s post had remained vacant for more than a year. Prof. Deveeramma said the college management had written to the Government about all these issues. The protesters served a week’s ultimatum to the Government.
