GUNTUR: Police here cracked the mystery behind the sensational heist of Rs.30 lakh belonging to a milk dairy, from a moving car at Narasaraopet on April 3 and arrested the five accused, including Perlapadu sarpanch Kasaragadda Nageswara Rao. Out of the stolen amount, Rs.20 lakhs was recovered from the accused by the police. In one of the daredevil robberies, seven persons chased the car from Narasaraopet, waylaid the car at Petlurivaripalem near Vinukonda, overpowered the driver and fled away with the cash. They even allegedly fired at the driver and later left behind the car. Stung by the brazen methods of the miscreants, the police formed special teams of Guntur and Narasaraopet police and began investigations. Piecing together the puzzle was never to be going to be easy for the police as the miscreants had not left any clue at the scene of offence. However, police smelt something fishy after the sarpanch, who was reeling under debt, began to lead a flashy lifestyle. After tailing him for some time, the cops took him into custody and started investigation. Seasoned criminals
The investigations led to a sensational plot, involving seasoned criminals from Hyderabad. According to Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha, the plot was hatched by Rao, who with the help of his cousin, Katragadda Hanumantha Rao, managed to execute it to perfection. The duo took the help of Kesari Naresh, V. Babu Rao, Ch. Jayapaul, N. Prasad, Mahender Reddy, V. Aswini and Ommar. With the help of Mahender Reddy, they rented out a car from a travel agency in Hyderabad on March 31. They allegedly drugged the driver at Kurnool and fled away with car. They contacted Hanumantha Rao, who told them that a large amount was being withdrawn from Narasaraopet on April 3. The gang reached Narasaraopet and basing on the updates provided by Rao began to chase the car. Naresh and Aswini followed the car on the motorcycle, while the other waited in the car. They waylaid the car at Petulurivaripalem and fled away with the cash. The police also seized a .8 mm country pistol used in the robbery. Three offenders, J. Mahender Reddy, Y. Aswini and K. Hanumantha Rao were yet to be nabbed. The S.P commended the efforts of CCS C.I D. Koteswara Rao, Inspector of Narasaraopet D. Prasad, S.Is S.V. Rajasekhara Reddy and B. Koteswara Rao.
