Raichur: Members of the Janapara Sanghatanegala Janti Kriya Samithi launched a 24-hour dharna here on Tuesday in protest against the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Raichur district. They were also demanding guaranteed employment with regular payments for beneficiaries of the scheme. Nearly 300 activists, including women, took part in the dharna at a tent put up in front of the office of the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat. They decided to continue their dharna till dawn on Wednesday demanding that the Government order a probe into the “irregularities” in the implementation of the scheme in the district. ‘Black day’
They have planned to observe Wednesday as a “black day”. They said they would boycott the Independence Day celebrations as a mark of protest against the failure of the Government in setting right the anomalies in the implementation of NREGS in the district.
