dated August 15, 1957: Steps to control oil price

The Government’s determination to explore all possibilities of discovering oil within the country and to start their own refineries as this is the only way to control the price of petrol and oil in the country has been reiterated by the Minister for Mines and Oil, Mr. K.D. Malaviya. Replying to the debate in the Lok Sabha on August 13 on the demands for grants for the Ministry of Steel, Mines and Fuel, he said the Government had set their eyes on all areas where possibilities of oil were suspected. The Cauvery delta in the South was a place worthwhile exploring. And in the North, possibilities were being explored both in Jaisalmer area and in the Gangetic basin.
