This Day That Age
The Finance Minister, Mr. T.T. Krishnamachari, said in the Lok Sabha on August 13 that even a Minister might be a student and could have certain personal views (on some topics) which might be academic. He was replying to a question on his reported remarks in Madras that land revenue could be replaced by agricultural income-tax. Pointing out that he did not say the land revenue system could be completely done away with and replaced by agricultural income-tax, the Finance Minister said the views he expressed recently (in Madras) were his personal views and had nothing to do with the Union Cabinet or the Government. He also told the House that one of the columns in the newspapers in which he was interested was the obituary column. He was replying to a question on the low yield of estate duty.
