MANGALORE: NSAM School (Nitte), Ramakrishna School (Mangalore) and K.S. Hegde Basketball Foundation won the Independence Cup basketball weekend monsoon league in the primary boys, high school girls and women’s sections respectively. NSAM defeated Canara School (Urwa) in the final league match 18-6, while Ramakrishna got the better of St. Mary’s School 18-4. K.S. Hegde beat NIT-K (Srinivasnagar) and Mangalore Basketball Club 25-12 and 12-3 respectively to clinch the women’s crown. The results: Men’s league: K. S. Hegde bt MBC 61-58. NIT-K bt St. Aloysius College Alumni Association 36-33. Final standings: Primary school boys: 1. NSAM 2. St. Aloysius (Karangalpady), 3. Canara School (Urwa); High school girls: 1. Ramakrishna 2. MRPL, 3. Canara (main); Women: 1. K.S. Hegde, 2. MBC, 3. NIT-K.
