I-T evasion by coaching institutes detected

NEW DELHI: In its ongoing drive against tax evasion, the Income-Tax Department has conducted surveys at nine premises of various institutions engaged in imparting coaching for competitive examinations (coaching institutes), deployment of manpower in various institutions (placement agencies), air-services institutes and foreign education placement agencies in Delhi and Mumbai on August 9.

Based on the evidence collected during these surveys and subsequent investigations, various concerns had already admitted tax evasion amounting to Rs. 26.75 crore, an official statement said here on Tuesday. Further investigationin these cases were in progress and detection of more tax evasion was likely.
