Coimbatore: Local boy N.S. Vignesh Krishna set the day’s lone record tallying 233 for the junior men’s 50m pistol gold in the 33rd Tamil Nadu State shooting championship at the Coimbatore Rifle Club range here on Tuesday. Vignesh, who hails from a family of shooters, erased the mark of 196 set by Kevin Alphonse in Chennai in 2002. Abishek Sanjay Prabakar (Coimbatore) and Parkharvel Kulshrestha (Chennai), who with silver and bronze respectively, also bettered the old mark with overall scores of 226 and 225 respectively. In the men’s section, N. Shanmugham of Coimbatore fired rounds of 88, 86 and 82 for the 50m pistol gold. However, his total of 256 was not anywhere close to his personal best of 267 set in 2000. The results: Junior men: 50m pistol: 1. N.B. Vignesh Krishna (Cbe) 233 (83, 79, 71); 2. Abishek Sanjay Prabhakar (Cbe) 226 (83, 73, 70); 3. Parkharvel Kulshrestha (Che) 225 (79, 71, 75).
