Harihara Sudan, Mohana Priya take honours

Palani: Harihara Sudan (T. Nagar Academy, Chennai) stunned overnight leader Sai Manivannan (Chennai) in the final and 11th round to win the title with 9 points in the boys section of the 20th Tamil Nadu State under-13 chess championship here on Tuesday. J. Mohana Priya of Kanchi District won the girls titles with 10 points.

Final placings:

Boys: 1. Harihara Sudan 9 pts; 2. Sai Manivannan 8.5; 3-7: Akash (Che), Ajay Srikanth (Che), Anand Raj (Tvlr), Manigandan (Mdu), Ramalingam Karthik (Slm) 8; 8-9: Tejas Ravichandran (Che), Praveen Kumar (Vel) 7.5.

Raja bags three golds

P. Raja of Bharath College of Science and Management (Thanjavur) won three gold medals at the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate swimming meet in Pudukkottai on Tuesday.

Ramesh, Kavitha win

P. Ramesh (MSS Wakf Board College, Madurai) and K. Kavitha (Sri Meenakshi Govt. College) won the gold in the men’s and women’s sections respecvtively in the 60th Independence Day mini-marathon race at Madurai on Tuesday.

Dr. P. Maruthamuthu, Vice-chancellor, flagged off the race and then gave away the prizes.

The results: Men (20km): 1. P. Ramesh, 2. O. Raman (Arul Anandar College, Karumathur), 3. C. Jothimani (S.B.K. College, Aruppukottai).

Saravanakumar and Anandan excel

P. Anandan of Gandhigram Rural University and D. Saravanakumar of MSP Solai Nadar HSS won a sprint-double (100 and 200m) in boys under-20 and u-16 categories in the Dindigul District junior athletics meet in Dindigul.

RDCA annual day

The annual day of the Ramanathapuram District Cricket Association (RDCA) was celebrated at Ramanathapuram on Sunday. D. Julius Vijayakumar, assistant secretary of TNCA, who was the chief guest, gave away the awards.

The awards:

First Division (Senthamarai Kannan Memorial Trophy): Winner: Rainbow CC; Runner-up: Luminous CC. Special awards: Batsman: M. Baskara Sethupathy, Bowler: Lindle Pascle (both from Syed Ammal Engg. College).

Second Division: (Subramania Iyer Memorial Trophy): Winner: AVMS Matric HSS; Runner-up: Schwartz MHSS. Special awards: Batsman: Rahman (Schwartz MHSS); Bowler: Chandra Mohan (AVM SM HSS).
