No serious discussions at KDP meeting

Staff Correspondent

Chitradurga: The meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) held here on Tuesday after a gap of over eight months appeared to have been held for the sake of formality since no serious discussion took place on any issue.

The meeting, which was chaired by district in-charge Minister Basavaraj Horatti, was delayed by over an hour. It took just two hours to review the works of 27 departments. Officials of almost all departments only read out the details of works and funds being released. The record of several departments was shown to be below the expectations.

At the meeting, he issued instructions to officials of few departments when MLAs G. H. Tippareddy, H. Anjaneya and D. Manjunath expressed disapproval over implementation of certain schemes.

Hiriyur MLA D. Manjunath drew attention to non-supply of electricity to borewells in the district because the zilla panchayat’s Engineering Department had not paid deposits to the Bellary Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM). The Minister instructed the officials to remit the funds to BESCOM immediately. He also instructed a zilla panchayat official to give priority to drinking water supply in the district.

Reviewing the works of the Adult Education Department, he directed the official to provide the list of promoters being appointed, and the staff requirement. The directive came when officials informed the meeting of shortage of staff in the department to undertake works.

Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas urged the Minister to provide funds to build a separate room on the premises of the district library for IAS and IPS aspirants. To this Mr. Horatti offered to release Rs. 25 lakh from the Government.
