TDP to continue its struggle against mining company

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party President N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday rubbished the Government’s clean chit to Obulapuram Mining Company’s iron ore mine and made it clear that the party would continue an uncompromising struggle on the issue till the lease was cancelled and global tenders called.

At a press conference, Mr. Naidu said the all party legislators visit to Obulapuram has been reduced to a farce with no top ranking official on hand to clarify the doubts raised by them. They were taken like a tourist party and despite repeated requests no official document was given to the legislators. A private industrialist was given a free hand. ‘Did Tatas do the same when Nandigram controversy broke out?,’ they posed.

When it was pointed out that his party stood isolated on the issue with all other parties contending that there was no irregularity, he said he would not comment on it as every party had a right to take its own stand. But his party had marshalled all the evidence and was convinced that OMC resorted to “looting of iron ore” and was shown undue favour by the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. “Let the people decide who is right and who is wrong.”

He said he was surprised by the Government’s counter attack on TDP, instead of giving the 24 documents sought by the party.

“The Government wants to browbeat the Opposition into silence. We will not budge and will fight it out. The iron ore mine is a public property and we will protect and see that the Government gets the maximum revenue out of it,” he said.
