‘Mini’ Pravasi Diwas planned in September
Sandeep Dikshit
NEW DELHI: As part of the Indian Government’s focussed approach on overseas Indians, the first ‘Mini-Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas’ (Mini-PBD-2007) will be held in New York on September 23, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said here on Monday.
Persons of Indian Origin and Non-Resident Indians from the north and south American continents besides the Caribbean countries will participate in the event.
The Minister was speaking after the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) signed an memorandum of understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry to organise the Know India Programme aimed at introducing overseas Indian youth to the culture, heritage, history, economy and development of India and establish and maintain a website for involving a network of these youth.
Ongoing programme
The Know India Programme, which was earlier known as the Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth, is an ongoing programme of the MOIA aimed at associating the younger generation of the Indian diaspora with India.
