London: NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul’s Caparo Group on Tuesday opened a School of Excellence at his birthplace in Jalandhar, which will specialise in providing manufacturing, engineering and management education. “Gift to India”
“The Caparo School of Excellence is my gift to India in the name of my daughter Ambika. I am proud that I am in a position to give something back to Jalandhar, my birthplace,” Lord Paul said here. The School of Excellence, situated 16 km from Jalandhar, will collaborate with selected United Kingdom and United States-based universities to create what is being called a “Dream Team of Engineers.” It is the only university in the region to offer such engineering courses, Lord Paul said. For the first academic year, the school will offer three degree courses — B-Tech (Electronics) specialising in Manufacturing Electronics, a B-Tech (Mechanical) specialising in Manufacturing Technology and a B-Tech (Information Technology) specialising in Process Planning. Funding by trust
The school’s development was funded by The Ambika Paul Foundation, a charitable trust set up in memory of Lord Paul’s daughter who lost her battle with leukaemia in 1968. Ambika was the inspiration for the vision that became Caparo. The school is Lord Paul’s first initiative towards fostering entrepreneurship in India by catalysing, accelerating and supporting the growth of manufacturing and materials technology. — PTI
