Noted TV anchor harassed
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: A noted television anchor, whose popular shows include programmes on empowerment of women, was allegedly harassed by a man on her office premises at Banjara Hills on Tuesday. The accused, Goverdhan Reddy aged about 32 years, was arrested by the police.
The woman came down the staircase of her Telugu news channel office and was walking out when the accused drove in around 3.30 p.m. in an ‘inebriated condition’. He claimed that he wanted to meet one of his friends working in that office.
“On seeing the anchor, Reddy passed some lewd comments saying he had brought a gift for her,” Banjara Hills police station Inspector E. Shankar Reddy said. The embarrassed anchor, approached the police who registered a case under section 509 (making gesture or comment intending to insult modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code.
Reddy was arrested and sent to hospital where tests proved that he was in drunken condition, the Inspector said. The accused was a resident of Ameerpet.
