CHENNAI: It is the democratic duty of political parties to highlight problems faced by the public, raise their voice and stand by them in their struggle, S. Ramadoss, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder, said here on Tuesday.
In a statement, Dr. Ramadoss said that he did not expect Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to decry this democratic duty. “Why should I be viewed as an enemy when I give my views as a friend? Why should efforts be taken to depict me as one against development,” he asked.
The State Housing Board recently announced that they were planning to construct new houses in Sholinganallur after demolishing houses where more than 300 people lived. When this issue was brought to the notice of PMK, the party organised demonstrations and petitions were given to the Housing Minister, but in vain.
Only after this did Dr. Ramadoss visit the area and interact with the people and assured them of all help, the release said.
