KOLKATA: East Bengal made full use of a replay to beat Peerless SC 3-0 in the Premier Division of the Calcutta Football League on Tuesday. East Bengal faced the prospects of a defeat trailing 0-2 against the same opposition on Sunday before the match was abandoned after 68 minutes of action owing to crowd trouble and heavy rains. With the referee citing only the rain as the reason of abandonment, the Indian Football Association ordered a rematch. Nigerian recruit Abdul Samed took East Bengal ahead in the 14th minute before Alvito D’Cunha (50th minute) and Dipankar Roy (58 th) completed the tally. East Bengal, which has tallied 12 points to top the league table, meets second placed Mohun Bagan (10 points) on Friday. — Principal Correspondent
