Olejniczak and Ghouse pair posts upset win

NEW DELHI: Mustafa Ghouse and Dawid Olejniczak of Poland upset the top-seeded Patrick Briaud of the US and Joshua Goodall of Britain 6-4, 7-5 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $35,000 Challenger tennis tournament at Bukhara, Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, in the $50,000 Challenger at Bronx, New York, Rohan Bopanna suffered a 6-7(1), 6-7(3) defeat at the hands of the seventh-seeded Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic in the first round.

Bopanna will play the doubles with Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan. The Indo-Pak pair will take on Denis Gremelmayr of Germany and Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic in the first round. — Special Correspondent
