KUALA LUMPUR: Chetan Anand and Trupti Murgunde bowed out after losing their first round singles matches in the World Badminton championships on Tuesday. National champion Anand put up a brave front against ninth seed Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia but went down 11-21, 21-14, 21-18. Murgunde lost to Pui Yin Yip of Hong Kong 21-17 21-13. The only Indian win on Tuesday came through the men’s doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas who beat France’s Svetoslav Stoyanov and Mihail Popov 21-9, 21-15.
Peter Gade, the only European considered capable of standing up to the Chinese juggernaut, also moved into the second round after a tough 21-18, 21-10 workout against England’s Andrew Smith.
