Hippo keeps zoo staff guessing

HYDERABAD: A hippopotamus at the Nehru Zoological Park, Parvathi (18), gave birth to a calf on Sunday. But the gender of the newborn is yet to be ascertained.

The water creature with its calf remained in the moat ever since, leaving the zoo staff waiting on the shores. Till they emerge from the water, the staff will not be able to update their records with the gender of the new member of the hippo family.

Both mother and the offspring were stated to be in good health.
