I-Day celebrated with pomp and gaiety

Welfare assistance worth Rs. 60.99 lakh distributed to 427 beneficiaries

Krishnagiri: Pomp and gaiety marked the Independence Day celebrations in Krishnagiri district on Wednesday. District Collector Santhosh Babu hoisted the national flag at 8.30 a.m. and reviewed the guard of honour of the police. He later took salute at the march past of the police, Home Guards and Fire and Rescue Services personnel. He released about five doves in the air.

The Collector honoured 12 freedom fighters by presenting them with shawls and umbrellas and distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 60.99 lakh to 427 beneficiaries.

The Collector distributed assistance under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Labourers-Farmers (Social Security Scheme) to the tune of Rs. 4.11 lakh to 47 beneficiaries. The Collector presented award to Public Relations Officer M. Krishnasamy for promoting Tamil language in the district.

He also distributed financial assistance under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Assistance scheme worth Rs. 2.52 lakh to 42 persons. Cultural programmes by students from 14 schools followed. District Revenue Officer V. Mohanraj, Superintendent of Police P.C. Thenmozhi and Revenue Divisional Officer Prakasam were among those who attended the function.

In Dharmapuri, District Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal unfurled the tricolour. Mr. Bansal received the guard of honour of the police. He took salute at the march past of the police, Home Guards, Fire and Rescue Services personnel, NCC students, scouts and guides. He released four doves.

The Collector honoured freedom fighters and distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 6.60 crore to 2,053 beneficiaries. District Revenue Officer R. Nagarajan and Superintendent of Police H.M. Jayaram were present.
