Imperialist forces gaining strength, says Achuthanandan

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that imperialist forces are gaining strength in the country to such an extent that even the non-aligned foreign policy of the country is being questioned.

Addressing a public meeting held here in connection with a ‘Navabharatha march’ organised by the Democratic Youth Federation of India on Wednesday, Mr. Achuthanandan said the Left parties were trying to make the Centre adopt a different policy from that machinated by the imperialist forces.

He alleged that the Centre appeared to be under the control of monopolist forces too. That is the reason why the Centre is in a haste to entrust public sector undertakings to the private sector.

He said the green signal to start self-financing colleges in the State was given by the previous United Democratic Front Government with the deliberate intention of commercialising the education sector.

Contributions sought

The Chief Minister called upon the public to generously contribute towards the Natural Calamities Relief Fund. He wanted all employees of the Government and public and private sectors to contribute a day’s salary to the fund. The Centre has promised an allocation to the fund. But till then, contributions can make the fund realise its purpose.
