UDUMALPET: Water was released from the Tirumurthy reservoir for the irrigation of around one lakh acres in the fourth zone in Coimbatore and Erode districts under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) on Wednesday.
Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Kalyanasundaram opened the sluice of main canal. Water level stood at 58.91 feet against the full storage level of 60 feet on Wednesday. The dam received an inflow 873 cusecs and the outflow was 700 cusecs. Water will be supplied for 90 days in a span of 135 days. Ayacuts in Udumalpet, Pollachi, Tirupur, Palladam, Dharapuram and Kangeyam taluks will benefit from the release.
