Give equal importance to duties, people advised
Staff Correspondent
‘Apart from rights, certain duties have been cast upon us’
HAVERI: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Haveri district in-charge C.M. Udasi has called upon everyone to give equal importance to their citizen duties apart from claiming their rights.
He was addressing the 60th Independence Day celebrations at the Municipal High School Ground here on Wednesday after hoisting the national flag and receiving the guard of honour.
“Apart from the rights that freedom has given us, certain responsibilities and duties have been cast upon us. These should not be forgotten. One should first understand his duties and then take steps to discharge them properly,” he said. Tracing the history of the freedom struggle and recalling the sacrifices and contributions of freedom fighters, Mr. Udasi said India could not have become the largest democracy without their contribution.
Felicitation
On the occasion, four freedom fighters, Naganagouda Patil of Sudambi, Martandappa Kattimani of Negalur, Ramanna Nekar of Kalledevaru and Nagavva R. Doodanavar of Halagi, were felicitated by the Minister.
Earlier, schoolchildren took out processions.
