Assistance distributed in Pudukottai, Perambalur and Karur districts

PUDUKOTTAI: Distribution of loans, subsidy and marriage assistance and honouring of freedom fighters were the highlights of the 60th Independence Day celebrations here on Wednesday.

Collector S.J. Chiru hoisted the national flag at a colourful function. Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar, he inspected the guard of honour presented by the police and fire service personnel, the Home Guards and the National Cadet Corps.

Mr. Chiru distributed assistance to the tune of Rs.19 lakh under government welfare schemes to 168 persons.

The beneficiaries included members of two self-help groups, who got subsidy-linked loans to the tune of Rs.80,000, and three persons who got a self-employment loan of Rs.1.70 lakh under the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana.

The Collector also gave away prizes to the district toppers in the SSLC and Plus Two public examinations held in March-April this year. The Department of Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare sanctioned life-time assistance to a soldier of the Second World War.

Perambalur

In Perambalur, Collector Anil Meshram gave away certificates to 17 police personnel in appreciation of their service. Governmental assistance, sanctioned by various departments worth Rs.14 lakh, were distributed to 105 persons. The Revenue Department sanctioned a relief of Rs.10,000 to Sumathy of Nagamangalam village who lost her vision after a lightning struck her. Four ex-servicemen got assistance and loans. Collector Anil Meshram distributed the cheques to the beneficiaries. Earlier, Mr. Meshram unfurled the tricolour and released two pigeons. Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Prem Anand Sinha, he inspected the guard of honour presented by the police and fire service personnel and NCC cadets.

The Collector, the Superintendent of Police and Chairperson of the District Panchayat Council Kodiyarasi Doraiswamy participated in a community feast held at the Siruvachur Madurakaliamman Temple. District Revenue Officer P. Sankar participated in a similar feast at Sri Madanagopalaswami Temple.

Karur

In Karur, distribution of marriage assistance to 39 brides under the ‘Moovalar Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Memorial Scheme’ was the highlight of the Independence Day celebrations.

Collector T.N. Venkatesh, who earlier hoisted the tricolour at the Tiruvalluvar grounds here, gave away the cheques to the tune of Rs.5.85 lakh, at the rate of Rs.15,000 each, sanctioned by the Social Welfare Department.

In all, 272 persons got a total assistance of Rs.86.66 lakh.

A major share came from the Revenue Department, which sanctioned assistance worth Rs.76.86 lakh to 186 beneficiaries.

Accompanied by Superintendent of Police K. Shanmugavel, the Collector inspected the guard of honour presented by the Armed Reserve personnel, National Service Scheme volunteers and National Cadet Corps, besides the Home Guards.

Later, he participated in a community feast held at the Sri Kalyana

Venkataramana Swamy temple.
