I-Day parade: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at the Independence Day celebrations at Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday called upon the Capital’s citizens to cooperate in the Government’s preparations for the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games and also make Delhi a world-class city. Addressing a function at the Chhatrasal Stadium here to mark Independence Day, Ms. Dikshit said her Government was committed to making Delhi an educational hub. “The Government has commissioned two engineering colleges in rural Delhi and is also setting up Baba Bhimrao University.” Ms. Dikshit said the administration had become more and more responsive and citizen-friendly with the success of the “Bhagidari” movement, implementation of the Right to Information Act and application of information technology. Her Government, she added, had initiated a scheme for construction of thousands of low-cost houses for residents of slum clusters. Several Delhi Ministers, MLAs, Leader of the Opposition Jagdish Mukhi and Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan along with a large number of senior bureaucrats including State Chief Secretary R. Narayanswami attended the function.
