CHENNAI: Tourism Malaysia will utilise the proposed three-day convention of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), Tamil Nadu Chapter, to be held in Kota Kinabalu from September 6 to 9, to showcase lesser known destinations and those beyond Kuala Lumpur. Addressing a function to announce the convention, Director of Tourism Malaysia, Noor Arif Mohd. Noor, said it would be an ideal platform for the travel trade and tour operators from different parts of the world to look at newer locales in and around Malaysia. India, he said, was a very important travel market for Malaysia. There had been impressive tourist arrivals from India since 1999. There was a 43 per cent growth in tourist arrivals from India this year till March. The target was to receive 400,000 visitors from India in 2008. Wan Naimah Wan Daud, Vice-Consul, Consulate General of Malaysia in Chennai, released a brochure brought out on the occasion. Makhan Singh, Vice-Consul (Immigration) of the Consulate General of Malaysia, participated. Mr. Basheer Ahmed, Tamil Nadu Chapter Chairman of TAFI, outlined the importance of the convention where experts in the travel trade would deliberate on the emerging trends in the sector. N. Ramji, National Management Committee Member of TAFI, thanked Tourism Malaysia for supporting the convention in all possible ways including creating a special itinerary for the global delegates.
