BANGALORE: There will be greater thrust on infrastructure development in South Western Railway as the zone has been sanctioned Rs. 834 crore to undertake development projects, Divisional Railway Manager of SWR Bangalore, Mahesh Mangal has said. He was speaking after hoisting the national flag at the Railway Institute Grounds here on Wednesday. Mr. Mangal said line doubling and electrification of the Ramanagaram-Mysore section; laying of new line between Tumkur and Rayadurga and survey for the new line between Prashanti Nilayam-Kadiri had been sanctioned. Line doubling work between Yeshwanthpur and Tumkur was in an advanced stage and two block stations would be opened shortly. Doubling of line between Kengeri and Ramanagaram was in an advanced stage, he said. Mr. Mangal said that the performance of the division had been robust during 2006-07 with the total earnings reaching Rs. 636 crore. The punctuality performance of trains stood at 99.2 per cent, he said. The division was providing electronic coach guiding system on all platforms at Bangalore City and Yeshwanthpur railway stations. To ensure passenger security, all trains were being checked at Bangalore City and Yeshwanthpur railway stations, he said.
