Chauhan announces National Independence Fellowship

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan during the Independence Day celebrations in Bhopal on Wednesday.

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Wednesday said that the 150th anniversary of the 1857 war of independence would be observed with patriotic fervour. The Chief Minister was addressing the citizens after unfurling the Tricolour and saluting the parade held in Motilal Nehru Stadium here to celebrate Independence Day.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that 50 fellowships would be instituted to highlight the overall contribution of Madhya Pradesh in the first war of independence. A National Independence Fellowship of Rs. 5 lakh would also be instituted to commemorate the great freedom struggle.

In his message, the Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to rapid development of the State. He said works were being carried out for building infrastructure and improving the condition of roads and the situation on the electricity and irrigation fronts. Measures were being taken to turn agriculture into a viable occupation, as well as for empowerment of women, industrial growth, rural development and expansion of educational and health facilities, he said, adding that efforts were on to improve the lot of farmers, forest dwellers, members of Scheduled Castes and Tribes and minority communities.

The Chief Minister said that 32, 000 kilometres of quality roads had been constructed, power generation capacity had increased by 2400 MW and irrigation potential for an additional 400,000 hectare has been created.
