RANIPET: Boiler Auxiliaries Plant (BAP) at Ranipet in Vellore has planned to increase its capacity to 10,000 MW in the next two years. Proposals are being framed for an investment of Rs.190 crore, G. Arunagiri, Executive Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Ranipet, said here on Wednesday. Participating in the 60th Independence Day celebrations at Ambedkar Stadium in the BHEL township, he said that an investment of Rs.190 crore would be achieved in 2008-2009. “With this investment, BAP will be in a position to fully meet 10,000 MW capacity,” he pointed out. He said that these plans were being drawn up to meet power demands of the country. Overall turnover of the corporation stood at Rs.18, 838.50 crore, which was an increase of 29 per cent over the last year. He expressed that the continuous growth was a hallmark of the BAP. Its growth had been good in the last three years. Last year, for the first time in its history, the BAP surpassed Rs.1,000-crore turnover. The unit during the last year (2006-2007) made a turnover of Rs.1,074.50 crore. Mr. Arunagiri said that the profit before tax was Rs.126.54 crore, compared to Rs.57.88 crore last year. The shop floor dispatches was 45,006 MTs as against 40,903 MTs last year. “With this, the BAP has been able to meet all its commitments towards completion of the X Plan projects,” he added. He also stressed that with this growth, “we should take up the challenge to achieve a dispatch of 135,500 MTs this year”, and this growth would lead to an expected turnover of Rs.1,325.25 crore. “The BAP is working towards doubling its growth from Rs.1,000 crore to over Rs.2,000 crore during 2009-2010,” he said. Stating that the BHEL successfully commissioned 7,863 MW of power plants during 2006-2007, Mr. Arunagiri said that 65 per cent of the power generation was from the BHEL sets, which meant that two out of three houses was lit by the power generated from the BHEL sets. The BHEL had also planned to scale up its capacity to 15,000 MW. Traffic island
He said that it had been proposed to install a traffic island with high mast lamp on the Ponnai Koot Road after getting an approval from the authorities concerned. Based on the request from the revenue authorities, it had also been proposed to donate books for the public library.
