TIRUPATI: Going beyond their political rhetoric, all parties gave a call to fight against social inequalities as their I-Day message on Wednesday. After unfurling the tricolour, BJP leaders honoured freedom fighters and presented a TV set to a Children’s Home. The Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leaders raided a liquor shop, seized bottles being sold illegally. Lok Satta convener T. Janardhana Naidu hoisted the flag and called for a campaign to remove belt shops. Bharatiya Jana Shakti Party hoisted the flag in Akkarampalle. To drive home their demands, the protesting artistes of Annamayya Project were giving a non-stop performance for 24-hours that would end on Thursday morning. Social organisations too observed the day with equal zeal. People’s Action for Social Service (PASS) explained how its de-addiction centre had transformed alcoholics into normal beings, while Akshaya Kshetram, in association with Walkers Association, conducted the event for special children. Jaycees International held a meet for the deaf and dumb inmates of Samata Vidyalaya. Rotary Inner Wheel Club secretary P. Surekha distributed prizes to students at Nehru Municipal High School. Tirupati Brahmana Samajam distributed scholarships and books to meritorious students. National Integration Society conducted a meet, where speakers recalled the contribution of the freedom fighters. Dr. Agarala Eswara Reddi Degree College conducted a free blood donation camp, while SV Arts College conducted an expo of photos on freedom struggle. Gandhian G. Sivarama Murthy hoisted the tricolour at AGS Junior College. Mangalam-based SV Vidyaniketan got the flag unfurled by a tiny tot dressed as ‘Chacha Nehru’. Anu Vocational Junior College, Ravindra Bharati School, Little Flower High School, Sudhaha High School, Gems High School and Sri Chaitanya Children’s Academy also hoisted the flag at their respective premises.
