CHENNAI: ‘Nam Nadu’ was MGR’s blockbuster movie as far back as in 1969. After a gap of 38 years, another Tamil film with the same title, this time featuring Sarath Kumar, is being shot. Karthika
Malayalam actor Karthika is the female lead in the new film that is now being shot. Actor Ramesh Kanna has written the dialogues. The film is produced by Ramesh Babu for Kanakarathna movies. The film has a strong political flavour. Initially, the name of the protagonist was Azhagiri. But it was subsequently changed to Muthazhagan, who begins his career as a youth wing leader and rises to the level of Home Minister in the movie. His father Nasser is the Education Minister. The conflict between the two men and their viewpoints as the story unfolds on the screen is sure to make for interesting viewing, says an insider. There is even said to be a scene showing the father being arrested and taken to jail. Overtones
According to Sarath Kumar, the film that is now being made has a very good story line with political overtones. “Nam Nadu” is progressing in a planned manner, he said. “Any reformation starts at home — this is the gist of the film and I feel that it should be taken in the right spirit. I didn’t want to raise controversies and suggested the name change and also re-shot the arrest scene. The film is the remake of “Lion” in Malayalam,” he said.
