Entertaining: Differently abled kids dancing in a cultural show during the Independence Day celebrations at district sports complex in Dindigul on Wednesday.

DINDIGUL: Well-trained budding artistes from 11 schools succeeded in winning the hearts of audience assembled at the district sports complex to witness the 60th Independence Day celebrations here on Wednesday. Differently abled children too put up a wonderful show.

Clad in yellow and black attire, a team of 80 girls from Annamalaiar Girls Higher Secondary School opened the show with a scintillating rock and roll dance with perfect movements. St. Cecilia’s Middle School girls presented Thappattam, a rural folk dance neatly.

Students of Vasavi MHSS stressed the importance of national integrity through a colourful dance sequence and Akshaya Vidyalaya students portrayed the India in 2020, a dream of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam through a wonderful performance.

A drama depicting the mindset of a rural mother who had lost her son, an army officer in the Kargil war, by the students of Vidya Parthi HSS reflected excellent team effort, involvement and great care.

The first scene opened in a rural background with women and men engaging in agricultural activities. A young mother brought her male child to the middle school with an ambition of making him an Army Officer. After school and college, he joined Indian Army. One day, the son informed her that he would take part in the Kargil war to destroy the intruders. Later, his friend passed a message to the mother that her son was killed in the operation. All the military procedures involved in bringing the body to his native village were enacted by the students elegantly, eliciting all round appreciation.

A graceful dance by the differently abled children of Mother Mary Special School grabbed the attention of the crowd, thanks to sincere efforts of the teachers. With no hesitation, two teachers danced before the children to enable them to remember the sequences.

Other participants also dished out eye-catching programmes.
