TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Grama Udhyogasthargal (pensioners) Sangam has appealed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to increase the monthly pension for the terminated village munsifs, maniyakars and village karnams and fix it at Rs.1,250 and Rs. 700 for the widows.
The sangam also appealed to the Government to accord priority to the wards of former village officials while recruiting candidates to fill posts of VAOs.
It wanted the Government to implement the order for an insurance cover of Rs. 10,000 of these terminated village officials.
Although the Government had then issued an order assuring the insurance cover to be disbursed at the time of the end of the service, the same had not been implemented.
The sangam’s president, G. Kanagasabhai, explained the economical backwardness of the terminated employees and the penury conditions in which their widows were surviving.
Resolutions to this effect were adopted at the general body meeting of the terminated village administrative officers attached with the sangam’s Lalgudi branch held at Lalgudi recently.
