Shameful

The article ‘The last battle of Laxmi Panda’ (Aug. 15) left me dazed. Is this what we have given a member of the Indian National Army for fighting for our independence — a one-roomed residence in a slum in Jeypore, Orissa? We have left her to lead her life unknown and unrecognised. As an Indian, I felt ashamed.

The 60th anniversary of Independence is a good time to analyse why we continue to lag behind several nations on a number of fronts. Corruption has become so deep-rooted in our society that if we fail to remove it we can never become a developed country and vision 2020 will not be fulfilled.
