Corrections and clarifications

In a report “Ensure equitable growth for all, says President” (August 15, 2007, page 1), the last paragraph was: “Ms. Patil ended her address by invoking Swami Vivekananda’s ‘immoral clarion call’ to fellow-citizens to ‘Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached.’” A number of readers point out that it should have been “immortal clarion call”.

A PTI report “India plans tie-up with Israel [in developing unmanned combat helicopters]” (August 15, 2007) incorrectly referred to Admiral Sureesh Mehta as Vice Admiral. Admiral Sureesh Mehta is India’s 19th Chief of the Naval Staff.

The heading of a report was “Germ Plasma Centre set up” (August 15, 2007). It should have been “Germ plasm centre”. Also, a sentence in the report should have been Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a Germ Plasm Centre at Narva Khichian village near Jodhpur …”, and not “… laid the foundation stone for a Germ Plasma Centre ….” as was published.]

The expansion of PIO was not given in a report “‘New generation PIOs should know their roots’” (August 14, 2007), leading to a few queries. It stands for Persons of Indian Origin.
