NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel is gearing up for the launch of its mobile services in Sri Lanka, which is scheduled towards the end of the current fiscal. Its subsidiary in the island nation will be called Bharti Airtel Lanka Private Limited, while the services will be launched under the Airtel brand. Bharti Airtel President (Mobile Services) Sanjay Kapoor said the company planned to invest around $200 million in the Sri Lankan market in the next five years. Apart from regular mobile services, the company would offer 2G (second generation) and 3G (third generation) services to its subscribers in Sri Lanka, he added. Bharti Airtel, which has over 4.2-crore mobile subscribers in India, recently bagged the licence to provide 2G and 3G mobile services in Sri Lanka. Mr. Kapoor said a major portion of the committed investment would be made in the next 12 to 18 months. “People in Sri Lanka can look forward to a host of innovative products and services at affordable prices from Airtel’s vast portfolio,” Mr. Kapoor added.
