There will be a tabla solo by Aditya Kalyanpur Also, a sitar-sarod duet by Prabir Bhattacharya and Subhabrata Chatterjee
BANGALORE: Shri Rama Kala Vedike has organised a tabla solo by Aditya Kalyanpur and a sitar-sarod duet by Prabir Bhattacharya and Subhabrata Chatterjee at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on August 18 at 6 p.m. Managing trustee Ravindra Yavagal says the three young artistes have blossomed directly under the traditional guru-shishya parampara of the world famous sitar-tabla duo of Pandit Ravishankar and Ustad Allarakha. If you wonder how, he explains that Mr. Kalyanpur was under the tutelage of the late Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain while the other two have been the students of Pandit Deepak Choudhury, who in turn is one of the senior disciples of Pandit Ravishankar. “This combined performance of Aditya, Prabir and Subhabratha is a classic example of continuance of our heritage of Indian classical music… Their concerts should bring to life the memories of the performances of the legendary duo.” An “A” grade artiste of All India Radio, Mr. Kalyanpur has given public performances along with Zakir Hussain besides accompanying artistes such as santoor maestro Pandit Shivakumar Sharma, violin exponent N. Rajam, sitar player Shahid Parvez and Carnatic music maestros T.N. Krishnan and N. Ramani. He has also performed with international jazz musicians. He has bagged titles such as ITC’s Vidyasagar Award and Taal Mani. Presently, he is teaching the tabla in the U.S. Mr. Bhattacharyahails from a family steeped in art, from Kolkata. He stood first in M.A. (Instrumental Music) from Ravindra Bharathi University. He has to his credit several awards such as Nikhil Banerjee and Nirod Baran Smriti Puroskar, Sangeetha Rathna award by Sarba Bharathiya Sangeet Sanskriti Parishad. He has performed at many prestigious platforms and performed with many living legends. So has sarod player Mr. Chatterjee. Being close relatives and having learnt music from the same guru, the duo share a perfect understanding to present jugalbandi performances.
