KOCHI: The Brahmapuram Action Council (Against Garbage Dumping) said here on Wednesday that it had not agreed to support the Kochi Corporation’s garbage treatment plant coming up at Chellippaadam in Brahmapuram village. “Media reports quoting the Collector that we are not against the plant are untrue,” K.A. Abdul Basheer, general convener of the action council and member of the Vadavukodu-Puthenkruz panchayat council, told TheHindu. “We are totally against the plant, as it will contaminate our water sources,” Mr. Basheer said. “What we told the Collector is that we would not physically block the plant construction.” This was in response to the Collector’s request that the construction process should not be prevented and that garbage-carrying trucks should not be blocked.
