KANCHEEPURAM: Legal action has been initiated against the employees of 21 Public Distribution System outlets in Kancheepuram district for short supply of essential commodities to the cardholders.
A team of officials conducted surprise checks at 52 outlets in the district recently, when short supply of essential commodities was detected in 21 shops. Subsequently, cases under sec.39 (2) (1) of the Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1985 were booked against the erring employees.
Similarly, cases were booked against 59 vegetable vendors in the district recently for using un-certified weights and balances. Complaints or grievances with regard to weights or measurements can be lodged with Labour Department at 27221090, the release added.
