Telemedicine link with US varsity

HYDERABAD: Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated the web-based telemedicine link with University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, US, at the campus of IIIT here on Wednesday.
The Centre for Distance Health at the UAMS representatives explained to Dr. Kalam through video-conference that their mission was to eliminate healthcare disparities in their country.
The CDH was facilitating distance health implementation of educational, clinical, research and outreach opportunities to Arkansas rural population including diabetes self-management, high risk obstetrical management and cardiology consultation etc.
The telelink with IIIT in India would help them in collaborating with India’s healthcare facilities, providers and learn from each other as the healthcare statistics of India and Arkansas were similar, they said.
Responding to them, Dr. Kalam said as 70 per cent of Indian population lived in rural areas, and hence telemedicine, education link were vital for India.
