Stress on thrust to pro-poor policies

Special Correspondent

‘More attention needed to address the problems of poverty alleviation’

Congress party meeting of August 18 to address organisational matters

HYDERABAD: Pradesh Congress Committee chief K. Keshava Rao has urged the Government to give further thrust to its pro-poor policies to benefit all deprived sections at the earliest.

Addressing party workers after hoisting the tricolour at the party headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, here on Thursday, Dr. Keshava Rao said though the Government had adopted a pro-poor line, more attention was needed to address the problems of poverty alleviation.

Recalling the sacrifices of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, he said the path of development needed an astute study. All development in the new age should adopt a human face so that the poorest of the poor did not suffer.

Dr. Keshava Rao said the fruits of development must reach all sections -- otherwise, there was no meaning to it. Youth should play an important role in nation building, he said. Meanwhile, a meeting of the APCC Executive and Congress Legislature Party will be held on August 18 at 11 a.m. in Gandhi Bhavan, according to D.V. Satyanarayana Rao, general secretary. He said in a press release that the meeting will discuss the organisational matters.
