HAND IN HAND: CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu waving at supporters in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
HYDERABAD: Reiterating his party’s resolve to further intensify the ongoing land struggle, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu has advised the Government to leave its adamant attitude and take steps to distribute land and house sites to the eligible poor. Thousands of CPI (M) cadres formed a human chain from Secunderabad Railway Station to Charminar on Wednesday to mark the completion of 100 days of land struggle launched. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Raghavulu lamented that 60 years after the country became independent, the poor were still agitating to get house sites and land. Instead of fulfilling the aspirations of the people, the Government had unleashed repression resulting in the killing of seven people in Mudigonda, he said. The incident had strengthened the resolve of people to intensify the agitation , he said. Deadline
Meanwhile, the United Forum of 195 Mass Organisations set August 20 as deadline for the Government to implement Koneru Ranga Rao land committee recommendations failing which the forum would start issuance of ‘pattas’ to eligible people on the lands occupied as part of the struggle. Participating at a “get together” of the organisations, Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Labour Union general secretary B. Venkat demanded that the Government implement all the recommendations made by the land panel, except those that were against the interests of the poor. List out
The Government should list out the landless poor in the villages where the land struggle was launched and distribute the occupied land to them, he said. The Government should increase the quantum of amount sanctioned for construction of houses to Rs. 75,000 with 50 per cent subsidy and announce a comprehensive policy on house sites to middle classes, he said. CPI leader K. Ramakrishna, Civil Liberties leader K.G. Kannabiran, retired IAS officer T. Gopal Rao and others attended the meeting.
