Fantastic feat: Vengsarkar

Mumbai: The Chairman of the BCCI’s senior National selection committee, Dilip Vengsarkar, who returned from London on Wednesday afternoon said India’s Test series win in England was a “`fantastic” feat.

Vengsarkar who travelled with the Indian team right through the Test series said: “It’s the first tour of England for youngsters like Rudra Pratap Singh, M.S. Dhoni and Dinesh Karthick. All the three really adapted to the conditions. That’s one of the high points of the series.”

“If one looks back at the history of Indian cricket teams on overseas tours, we have always struggled in the first Test in England, Australia and South Africa. We have always done well in the subsequent Test matches. On this occasion once the Indian batting clicked in the second Test at Trent Bridge, I was confident that the team will not look back. In fact they brought England under immense pressure.”

Talking of S. Sreesanth he said: “Sreesanth bowled well in patches. He has the skill and ability to become a top class international bowler, but to become one, he has to be consistent at the highest level of the game.”

Vengsarkar also stood by his captain Rahul Dravid’s decision not to enforce the follow-on in the third Test. “If India could not dismiss England in 110 overs, I would simply say England played well.” — Special Correspondent
